THE SAGES MISSION

The Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) represents a worldwide community of surgeons that can bring minimal access surgery, endoscopy and emerging techniques to patients in every country.

SAGES mission includes the exchange of information in current and emerging minimal access technology and techniques.

MEDICAL INFORMATION ON-LINE

As use of the Internet has become more prevalent, patients have increasingly consulted the web to aid in healthcare decisions. SAGES realizes that information on the Internet can be unreliable so we have created this web site to provide the most accurate, up-to-date and widely accepted medical information on screening colonoscopy. Rather than just the opinion of one physician or one medical device company, the information presented here has been reviewed by multiple committees of physicians, including select representatives SAGES Board of Governors. Care was also taken to review appropriate medical literature as well as other societies' statements regarding this topic.

This web site is not intended to take the place of your discussion with your surgeon about your need for a colonoscopy. If you have any questions about your need for a colonoscopy, alternative tests, the cost of the procedure, billing or insurance coverage, do not hesitate to ask your surgeon or his/her office staff about it. If you have questions about the exam or subsequent follow-up, please discuss them with your surgeon before or after the examination.
